Špindlerův Mlýn is the Krkonoše's best-known winter resort — ski slopes, cable cars, a bobsleigh track and enough non-skiing activities to fill a day. From Prague it is about 150 km, so with a private driver a winter day out is realistic, without the mountain driving.

Skiing and the cable car

The resort is made up of several linked areas — Svatý Petr, Medvědín, Horní Mísečky and Labská — with around 25 km of slopes. If you are not skiing, the Medvědín cable car lifts you to about 1,235 m for the view, and the chairlift at Svatý Petr climbs to Pláň.

Bobsleigh, sledding and snowtubing

The bobsleigh track at Hromovka is about 1.4 km long, open all year in suitable weather and popular with families. Sledge runs and snowtubing on inflatable tyres (at Bedřichov and Svatý Petr) are easy options for children and for anyone who prefers to stay off skis.

A quieter walk

For something calmer, walk beside the frozen Labe reservoir in the valley above the town. Keep to the shore and the marked paths, and never step onto the ice.

The weather decides

Every one of these activities depends on snow, wind and temperature. Slopes, cable cars, the bobsleigh track, sledge runs and snowtubing can open late, close early or not open at all. Check the operators' live status on the morning of your trip, dress in layers and keep a second plan — a mountain restaurant is rarely a bad one.

Planning the day with a private driver

Allow roughly 2–2.5 hours each way. Leaving Prague at about 7:00–8:00 gets you there by mid-morning, and an afternoon departure brings you home in the early evening. The driver handles the mountain road, waits nearby and can adjust the timing if conditions change. Tell us if you are bringing skis, snowboards or sledges so we send a suitable vehicle.
